Dean, College of Engineering
Professor Nazmy joined Abu Dhabi University in 2007 as founding Dean of the College of Engineering. He led the growth of the College from 600 students to almost 2,600 students in 2018, making it one of the largest engineering colleges in the country. Under his guidance, the College has achieved ABET accreditation for five of its programs, as well as RIBA accreditation for its Bachelor of Architecture.
Before joining ADU, Professor Nazmy served as Director of the General Education Program and Chairman of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at UAE University, and a faculty member of the Polytechnic Institute of New York University and the University of Maine, USA.
A structural engineer by training, he received undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications from Ain Shams University in Egypt, before going on to complete a further master’s qualification and his PhD from Princeton University, USA.
Professor Nazmy’s primary area of research is the seismic behavior of bridge structures. His research on the non-synchronous seismic excitation of long-span cable-stayed bridges was considered a breakthrough in the field when published in the early 1990s and is still cited today. He has published over 60 papers on bridge dynamics and earthquake engineering.
