I’m happy represent Abu Dhabi University at the WETEX exhibition in Dubai. It’s been a great experience engaging with young minds and discussing the courses we offer, which are aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036.
Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has advanced 60 places in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, securing the 191st position globally, placing it among the top 200 universities on the global stage. ADU has marked its position as a leading university out of 2,092 higher education institutions, in recognition of its academic excellence and commitment to research.
In this year's rankings, ADU achieved remarkable success in the ‘International Outlook’ pillar, ranking 13th globally. The university scored 100 points in both ‘International Staff’ and ‘International Students’, reinforcing its commitment to global collaboration and campus diversity. The recognition in this area further cements its position as a regional academic hub for international talent.

In research and innovation, ADU saw significant growth in the ‘Research Environment’ pillar climbing 203 places to rank 268th globally, in addition to rising 79 places in the teaching pillar, ranking 203rd globally. Furthermore, the university has progressed across 12 metrics, including ‘Research Productivity,’ ‘Research Reputation,’ and ‘Research Excellence’, highlighting its ongoing efforts to foster a robust research environment that contributes to the UAE’s knowledge-based economy and global developments.
ADU also improved its ranking in the ‘Research Quality’ pillar by 20 places, ranking 172nd globally, reflecting the increasing recognition of the university’s research quality by the global academic community, and solidifying its growing impact as a hub for innovation and advanced research.
Recently, ADU’s College of Business was re-accredited by the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), in addition to ranking as the number one business school in the UAE and Arab region and 101-125 globally according to Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024 by Subjects.
In reflection of its excellence across various academic programs, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) featured amongst the high ranks published by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2024. The University showed significant advancement in the Social Sciences and Management in broad subject areas, ascending 163 places, now ranking first in the UAE and 288 globally.
ADU has also demonstrated remarkable growth across several narrow subject areas, achieving an outstanding advancement of 100 places in Business and Management Studies, ranking 151-200 globally, first in the UAE, and a rise of 50 places in Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing ranking 401-450 globally. For the first time, ADU entered the Accounting and Finance narrow subject ranking, securing a global position in the 251-300 range and second in the UAE. Similarly, ADU has made its debut in the Engineering – Electrical and Electronic ranking, placed in the 501-530 rankings bracket. Additionally, as a first-time entry, the University secured a global position in the 551-600 range in the Computer Science and Information Systems ranking.
Furthermore, ADU's Engineering and Technology’s narrow subject areas received an increase in the overall score. Notably, the highest improvement was received in the Computer Science and Information Systems ranking.
Compared to the 2023 rankings, both the overall score for Engineering and Technology and its specific subject areas have increased in the rankings. Remarkably among the three narrow subject areas, the highest increase in citations was witnessed in Computer Science and Information Systems. In addition, Engineering – Electrical and Electronic experienced the most significant boost in the Academic Reputation and Institutional Research Network (IRN).

Moreover, ADU's Social Sciences and Management Studies, along with its subject areas assessed by QS, has achieved numerous rankings, with accounting and finance ranking for the first time in the 2024 rankings. These rankings reflect an overall score increase alongside improvements in several indicators, with a practical emphasis on academic reputation, followed by citations within the narrow subject area of Business and Management Studies.
Abu Dhabi University (ADU) made a significant impact at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2024, held from 10 – 13 June in Bangkok, Thailand. Represented by Prof. Sherine Farouk, Associate Provost for Academic Projects and Internationalization, ADU demonstrated its dedication to sustainability and digital transformation.
Organized by Times Higher Education, the GSDC 2024 focused on advancing sustainable development goals through education, research, and innovation. ADU proudly highlighted its initiatives with a dedicated booth, showcasing its commitment to these global objectives and its proactive stance in sustainable development and inclusive digital transformation.
Prof. Farouk was a prominent speaker at the congress, contributing to two insightful panel discussions. In the session "AI - Friend or Foe of Green Skills?", she explored the role of artificial intelligence in developing environmentally friendly skills. Additionally, her contribution to "No One Left Behind: Powering an Equitable Digital Revolution through Research and Innovation" emphasized ADU's efforts in promoting inclusivity and equitable access to digital advancements.
Through these engagements, Abu Dhabi University underscored its proactive stance in sustainable development and inclusive digital transformation.
In line with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is hosting a certified program titled “COP28 Ready: Leading the Way to Sustainability”. The program is open to high school and undergraduate university students and aims to enhance students’ knowledge and provide them with the necessary tools to understand and embrace different aspects of sustainability, including green jobs, COP28, and many more. The program will be held virtually and will kick-off on the 4th of November and continue until the 28th of November 2023.
Through this program, students will engage in an interactive and enriching learning experience, gaining a comprehensive insight into sustainable practices across various fields. The program will focus on the importance of environmental stewardship and pluralism as a fundamental aspect of human advancement. Additionally, specialized faculty members from ADU and industry experts will present eight modules in the field of sustainability.
The modules include Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enhanced learning for sustainable futures sustainable development goals (SDGS) and the role of UAE COP28 in driving global sustainability efforts, social sustainability: social conscience and the interconnectedness of humanity and sustainable innovation, entrepreneurship, and management practices. In addition to legal frameworks and ethics for sustainability, putting science and engineering knowledge in the service of sustainability and sustainable healthcare systems and public health as well as green jobs for sustainable futures.

participation, ADU has achieved a remarkable ranking as the fourth best University in the UAE out of ten academic institutions, the sixth in the region among 167 universities from 15 countries and an impressive 58th out of 963
institutions across 78 countries in the world. These rankings reflect the University’s outstanding accomplishments in the field of education, research and academia.

Reinforcing its position as a leading academic institution, ADU ranks in the 580th place globally and seventh in the UAE according to the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings, released by the global higher education rankings agency QS Quacquarelli Symonds. The University has risen in the ranks by more than 100 spots compared to the previous year, reaching the highest-tier rank since 2014.
According to the latest ranking, ADU witnessed a remarkable improvement in scores in multiple categories including the Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation and International Students categories. I was pleased to serve as a Sustainability Expert on the Judging Panel of the 2023 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group Awards, an initiative by the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

As I serve on the judging panel for the second consecutive year, I am pleased to see that UAE organizations' awareness, integration, and implementation of sustainability-oriented practices and SDGs have amplified. ADSG's sustainability-focused award initiative is a unique effort to carve our path to a thriving tomorrow in the rapidly changing world.
Congratulations to Theyab Al Meqbaali, Reem Juma Alshamsi, and Rana Bassam Abdulal, Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering students supervised by Dr. Taimur Hassan, Prof. Mohammed Ghazal, and Dr. Jawad Yousaf! They were one of ten successful teams in the Sustainability Innovators Challenge with their project ‘RetroVision.’ The Challenge, sponsored by Al Tamimi & Company and the Ministry of Education – UAE, started during hashtag#COP28UAE. The team will now work on rigorously testing their project in a clinical setting to explore its commercial potential, which will ultimately contribute towards the UAE’s indigenous product development initiative.
I am always proud of our students and alumni and grateful for their contributions to the University’s success. Our volunteering students have done an excellent job during the international conference on advancing sustainable futures (ICASF 2023) and COP28 events. During the ICASF conference we had over 500 participants from over 80 nationalities and our students handled the registrations and all logistical issues in a very smooth and professional way under the guidance of Prof.sherine Farouk, the Conference Chair, and Shakib Farhat, PhD, Ms Roula, and Sabri Abbas from students affairs. The volunteering students were our best ambassadors and I am very proud of their excellent contribution. As a token of appreciation, I invited them to my office alongside the conference organising committee in order to say “thank you” and to encourage them to keep involved in extra curricular activities. Students are always at the heart of everything we do at the University and their development is our moral and professional duty.

Emirates Red Crescent and Abu Dhabi University recently launched the Education Support Campaign in coordination with Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Lulu Group International. Through this collaboration, ADU and Emirates Red Crescent will support disadvantaged students in their university studies, providing them with an opportunity for a successful educational journey. The campaign aims to raise 10 million dirhams, and students will benefit from these funds starting 24 November 2021 and for one year. (This activity is licensed by the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, permit number 022).
Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Lulu Group International will aid the campaign by facilitating donations through their different points of sale. Community members will show their solidarity by donating valuable aid to students, starting at two dirhams.
Public donations will be accepted via text message through Etisalat and Du. Bank donations can be sent to Sharjah Islamic Bank - account number (11445518006), IBAN (AE350410000011445518006). Individuals can also donate through the link provided on the Emirates Red Crescent website (https://www.emiratesrc.ae/eduadu), with the donations ranging from ten dirhams to 1,000 dirhams.
H.E. Salem Al Rayes Al Ameri, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at Emirates Red Crescent, said, "Sponsoring students is one of the permanent and continuous programs within the initiatives of the Humanitarian and Development Authority. We continue to witness a high rate of response and generosity from sponsors and benefactors. These donations are considered a true embodiment and reflection of the authority's efforts to invest in empowering individuals and guiding them towards achieving their aspirations and fulfilling their dreams."
Al Ameri added, "The Authority acknowledges the important role it plays in preparing future generations for the responsibilities of tomorrow."
