In today’s fast-paced world, students often find themselves grappling with the demands of academic life, juggling assignments, exams, and extracurricular activities. In the quest for excellence, it’s easy to overlook the importance of physical and mental well-being. Yoga, an ancient practice that has endured for millennia, offersa powerful solution to the challenges of studying. By incorporating yoga into your daily routine, you can unlock a multitude of benefits that will not only improve your academic performance but also enhance your overall quality of life.
Some Benefits of Yoga:
• Stress Reduction The deep, controlled breathing and mindfulness exercises practiced in yoga help calm the mind and reduce the production of stress hormones. Lower stress levels can lead to improved focus and concentration, making it easier to absorb and retain information during study sessions.
• Improved Concentration Yoga requires a high level of concentration, as practitioners focus on holding poses and maintaining proper alignment. This increased focus during yoga sessions can translate into better concentration when studying. You’ll develop the mental discipline needed to stay on task when faced with academic challenges.
• Enhanced Memory Regular yoga practice has been shown to enhance memory and cognitive function. Poses that involve balance and coordination stimulate the brain and improve its ability to process and store information. This can be particularly helpful when memorizing facts, equation, or foreign language vocabulary

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) hosted a delegation from the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York, UK, to discuss comorbidity and a joint study on ‘Behavioral Activation for Comorbid Depression in Non-Communicable Disease (BEACON)’. The study was conducted in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
Comorbidity refers to the presence of more than one physical or mental illness at the same time – such as anxiety and depression. BEACON explores ways to respond to the challenges of comorbidity. ADU provided support in co-designing methodology for the psychological intervention as well as methods for engaging key stakeholders in the research.
Dr. Waqar Ahmad, Chancellor at ADU, commented, “As the UAE’s largest private universities and one of the leading universities in the region, we are hosting international delegations and offering healthcare-based education programs, thereby encouraging research in healthcare as a key strategic priority for the UAE. We are proud to work closely alongside the University of York, which is second to none when it comes to healthcare research, as we pursue our ambition to become one of the best providers of health science education and research in the region.”
Jerome Wright, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Health Sciences, University of York, said, “We are most appreciative of the warm welcome we have received and are pleased to learn of the exciting developments in health sciences that the new academic year will herald at ADU. The workshop has provided an opportunity to progress our planning and capacity within the BEACON research team in this vital area of integrating depression management into NCD care, as well as establishing a platform for our departments to exchange ideas and expertise.”
The study is under a program funded by the UK-based National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). NIHR supports applied healthcare research, which is also the vision behind the upcoming introduction of ADU’s College of Health Sciences. The new college will be open for student enrollment at the start of the next academic year.

The overflow of information and misinformation, news reports, and actions to reduce the spread of COVID-19, might increase the level of anxiety and fear among many individuals. To manage any feelings of fear, anxiety, or anger, try to follow the steps listed below:

Dr. Yomna Sameer, Assistant Professor of Management at ADU and her colleagues from Abu Dhabi University, Zayed University and Coventry University, studied the connection between happiness and sustainability.
Dr. Yomna Sameer, Assistant Professor of Management at ADU and her colleagues from Abu Dhabi University, Zayed University and Coventry University, studied the connection between happiness and sustainability. Her research explored the question: “Are happier nations more responsible?”
The study looked at the happiness scores of 152 countries by taking a psychological approach on how happiness is linked to sustainability in addition to its reflection on the individual’s perception of quality of life and life satisfaction. During the study Dr. Yomna and the research team excluded the factors that could influence the results - such as country's wealth, government corruption and general social trust - they found that happier countries achieve their sustainability goals and recycle daily more than unhappier countries. The study suggests that the pursuit of happiness does not necessarily spell disaster for the environment.
While happiness is associated with higher consumption, it could also lead to more responsible behavior and greater attention to sustainability considerations. Happy nations consume more, but they also seem to be more responsible towards society and the environment. The research findings challenge the traditional perception related to happiness and sustainability and assumes they go separate ways. The results point to several social and political implications including the importance of happiness for responsible behavior.
