ADU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Scholarship Office of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs (SCO), aimed at developing and adopting specific mechanisms of cooperation between both entities.

ADU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Scholarship Office of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs (SCO), aimed at developing and adopting specific mechanisms of cooperation between both entities. The MoU will contribute to improving the quality of academic outputs and scholarships for students in line with government directives.

Professor Waqar Ahmad, Chancellor of ADU, and Juma Al Rumaithi, Acting Director of the Scholarships Office, signed the MoU in the presence of representatives from both organizations.

Under the MoU, the SCO will grant scholarships to students to study at ADU based on its outlined criteria. ADU will also provide the SCO access to all its facilities and share studies and reports related to market needs and on-demand programs. Additionally, ADU will organize and host workshops and training courses to upskill students and prepare them for the labor market.  

Professor Waqar Ahmad, Chancellor of ADU, said, "We are proud to join forces with the Scholarships Office to provide a distinguished academic experience in line with the national agenda to create an innovative generation ready for the labor market."

He added, "Through our academic programs that are based on the highest international standards, advanced university facilities, and methods and platforms that stimulate analytical thinking, we will cooperate with the Office to provide students with  the knowledge and practical experience needed for continuous growth."

Zakat Fund and Abu Dhabi University (ADU) have launched the ‘Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity' initiative for the twelve year consecutively in support of both local and expatriate students.

Since its launch, the initiative has raised more than AED 71 million and extended financial aid to 3,580 students. This year, the fund aims to reduce the financial burden of 500 deserving students who are eligible zakat recipients.

His Excellency Abdullah Bin Aqeeda Al Muhairi, Secretary General of Zakat Fund, commented, “For the past eleven years, the ‘Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity' initiative has continued to raise funds in support of deserving and eligible students. This has been made possible through the joint efforts of the Zakat Fund and Abu Dhabi University. Our combined efforts, for more than a decade, has supported the UAE’s education system by providing valuable academic opportunities for young people. The Zakat Fund builds on our collective obligation to strengthening social solidarity amongst both individuals and institutions.”

He added, “We look forward again to extending our support to as many local and expatriate students as possible who meet the zakat requirements according to the approved regulations of the Zakat Fund. The initiative has allocated AED 60 million each academic year covering students’ tuition fees throughout their study at Abu Dhabi University. The Zakat Fund has taken multiple measures to ensure that funds reach those that are most in need.”

His Excellency Dr. Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi University, emphasized the importance of the initiative in providing better opportunities for students with limited financial resources and outstanding academic performance. The fund enables these students to excel in their field of study while reducing their financial burden. Dr. H.E Al Dhaheri reaffirmed Abu Dhabi University’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with leading organizations such as the Zakat Fund. ADU’s Chairman reaffirmed that Abu Dhabi University and the Zakat Fund will continue to work together to extend support to deserving undergraduate students in the University’s Abu Dhabi or Al Ain campuses, which is what the initiative has succeeded in doing since its launch more than a decade ago.

H.E. Dr. Bin Harmal added that the initiative has seen many of its beneficiaries graduate and enter the labor market with confidence. He pointed out that Abu Dhabi University is proud of the success of this initiative in collecting generous funds to support the needs of thousands of students while contributing to the UAE’s development and progress.

Their Excellencies Al Muhairi and Bin Harmal added that through this collaboration between Zakat Fund and Abu Dhabi University, they aspire to encourage individuals, governments, and corporations in the UAE to make impactful donations that will help young people realize their academic goals at ADU, as well as their personal dreams in the future.

ADU today launched a new initiative, in collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), Lulu Group International and PepsiCo, with the goal of providing relief for Sudanese families impacted by the heavy floods that have occurred in recent weeks.

ADU today launched a new initiative, in collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), Lulu Group International and PepsiCo,  with the goal of providing relief for Sudanese families impacted by the heavy floods that have occurred in recent weeks. The initiative, titled ‘For Sudan’, aims to collect both monetary and in-kind donations which will be sent to Sudanese families.

‘For Sudan’ will be available at ADU’s main campus from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., offering members of the community the opportunity to take part in the initiative. ADU and ERC will work closely to collect the donations via donation boxes.

The launch of the initiative took place in the presence of H.E Mohammed Ameen Al-Karib, Sudanese Ambassador to the UAE, representatives of ERC, Hadeel Anwar, Sudanese champion of the Arab Reading Challenge in 2019, in addition to Professor Waqar Ahmad, Chancellor of ADU, and Salem Mubarak Al Dhaheri, ADU’s Executive Director of Community Relations. Select members of ADU’s community, who are volunteers as part of the front line of defense, also attended.

Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of Community Relations at ADU commented: “We are proud to launch this initiative that will provide relief and support to families in Sudan affected by the devastating floods. We look forward to collaborating closely with the ERC on this impactful initiative that aims to alleviate the suffering the Sudanese people have endured. This initiative is also in line with our social responsibility to support not only local communities, but also regional communities in need of aid, where possible.”

Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, Deputy Secretary-General of Local Affairs at the Red Crescent, affirmed that the initiative supports the UAE’s humanitarian efforts to ward off the effects of floods in Sudan, and to stand by the Sudanese nation to overcome this crisis.

He added: “The Red Crescent has always been keen to support all humanitarian activities alongside its partners in the UAE, by organizing events that reinforce solidarity with victims of disasters and crises, that also reflect the values of the UAE in supporting neighboring countries.

Al Mansouri reiterated that the initiative strengthened the Red Crescent's response to those affected by the floods in a number of Sudanese states, and contributed to expanding the umbrella of the beneficiaries of the relief program that is currently being implemented on ground to reduce the impact of the disaster on those affected.

In line with Abu Dhabi University’s (ADU) vision to foster leadership, innovation and ambition among students, ADU is participating in the 17th edition of the Najah Abu Dhabi exhibition 2023, the largest education fair in the UAE. Taking place from the 29th to 31st of October, ADU will showcase its diverse academic programs, scholarships and other key initiatives during its participation.

 

The University will feature its attained accreditations and achievements across the education sector including the latest rankings where it came ranking 13th globally for the World’s best small universities and 58th globally for young universities under 50 years according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023.

 

Faculty and staff members will be available to discuss ADU’s diverse undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs including the new five undergraduate degrees offered by the College of Business, which are designed to empower students to grow, succeed and prepare for their future careers. These newly accredited programs include the Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and fintech, accounting, human resources management and digital marketing communications. These programs focus on technology, data management and sustainability as well as critical thinking, problem-solving, emotional intelligence (EI) and entrepreneurship.

 

During the exhibition, Professor Hatem Abushammala, professor of Environmental Health and Safety at the College of Health Sciences of ADU, will host a session titled “Sustainability and Education”, presenting his scientific research that focuses on sustainability, environment, waste management, and the preservation of natural resources.

This includes receiving the highest accolade accreditation, a ten-year full reaccreditation without reservation, from The American Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a world-renowned accrediting association and one of the six regional accrediting agencies in the USA.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representitive of the Ruler in Al Dhafra Region and President of the Board of Trustees of Abu Dhabi University (ADU), grants 20 scholarships to the top high school students in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. The scholarship awardees will enroll in ADU at the start of the academic year 2023 - 2024 to join any of the 50 unique programs at its Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai campuses.

 

ADU’s majors and concentrations include a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, Information Technology (IT) and Cybersecurity Engineering; Computer Engineering – Artificial Intelligence concentration, Electrical Engineering – Robotics and Automation Concentration, as well as a Master of Science in Information Technology and Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering. ADU’s programs seek to equip students with the essential skills to best prepare them for the twenty-first century's most in-demand jobs and excel in their future careers.

 

Offered since 2009, the “HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed” scholarship is a prominent national initiative dedicated to empowering outstanding students and inspiring them to pursue their educational objectives.

 

Dr. Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman and Founder of Abu Dhabi University (ADU)  highlighted the importance of similar initiatives that have been generously provided by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Prof. Ghassan stressed the importance of student’s dedication to upholding a minimum CGPA of 3.70 and enrolling in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester (excluding winter and summer terms) in order to continue benefiting from this prestigious scholarship.

 

ADU received the highest accolade accreditation from The American Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). LuLu Group Supports Education Funding Campaign by Emirates Red Crescent and Abu Dhabi University

Emirates Red Crescent and Abu Dhabi University (ADU) recently launched the Education Support Campaign in coordination with LuLu Group International and Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society. Through this collaboration, ADU and Emirates Red Crescent will support disadvantaged students in their university studies, providing them with an opportunity for a successful educational journey. The campaign aims to raise 10 million dirhams, and students will benefit from these funds starting 24 November 2021 and for one year. (This activity is licensed by the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, permit number 022).

Abu Dhabi-based retailers LuLu Group International and Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and will aid the campaign by facilitating donations through their different points of sale. Community members will show their solidarity by donating valuable aid to students, starting at two dirhams.

Public donations will be accepted via text message through Etisalat and Du. Bank donations can be sent to Sharjah Islamic Bank - account number (11445518006), IBAN (AE350410000011445518006). Individuals can also donate through the link provided on the Emirates Red Crescent website (https://www.emiratesrc.ae/eduadu), with the donations ranging from ten dirhams to 1,000 dirhams.

H.E. Salem Al Rayes Al Ameri, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at Emirates Red Crescent, said, "Sponsoring students is one of the permanent and continuous programs within the initiatives of the Humanitarian and Development Authority. We continue to witness a high rate of response and generosity from sponsors and benefactors. These donations are considered a true embodiment and reflection of the authority's efforts to invest in empowering individuals and guiding them towards achieving their aspirations and fulfilling their dreams."

During the holy month of Ramadan, our ADU nutrition students from the College of Health Sciences participated in a quantity food production event to serve their culinary course and humanitarian efforts in collaboration with the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Under the supervision of Ms. Dima El-Halabi, Senior Nutrition Instructor, and Sunil Choyyan, Executive Chef, students planned, prepared and distributed 70 Iftar boxes to underprivileged individuals. Each box was filled with a main course, appetizers, and dessert. Wishing everyone a Ramadan Kareem!

Sustained economic growth cannot be achieved without social inclusion as the whole of society has a role to play in the development of a country. Federal Law No. 13 of 1972 and its amendments by the law (No.2) in 2001 was issued by the Ministry of Community Development.

(MOCD) as the first law to provide social benefits to members of the community to ensure and sustain the high quality of living for all UAE citizens. The Ministry continues to work today on enhancing social inclusion for all members of society where social benefits are extended to cover twenty-one segments of the community.

The UAE government has a future vision to change the culture of social support from the current ‘social welfare’ model to ‘sustainable social development’ that encourages independence and growth of families across the UAE.

ADU is determined to overcome all challenges that ADU and our students might face as a result of the poverty. Our scholarships and financial aid programs are available to all students who want to fund their academic programmes. We consider it our duty to provide equal opportunities to students interested in pursuing higher education, enabling them to contribute to society regardless of their financial situation.

In additional to financial aid, ADU scholarships are being provided to outstanding students, through seven main categories, including the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Scholarship, the President’s Scholarship, the University Scholarship, the Academic Scholarship, the Athletic Scholarship, the Alumni Scholarship, and the Family Tuition Waiver.

We take pride in attracting the brightest students in the UAE and offer them generous support, to excel in their studies. Our Scholarship and Financial Aid programmes are part of ADU’s corporate social responsibility and are influenced by the UAE’s great leadership. ADU is constantly finding pioneering and innovative ways to support and facilitate the needs of our students to help them achieve their academic degree.

Emirates Red Crescent and ADU Launch a Humanitarian Funding Campaign

Emirates Red Crescent and Abu Dhabi University recently launched the Education Support Campaign in coordination with Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Lulu Group International. Through this collaboration, ADU and Emirates Red Crescent will support disadvantaged students in their university studies, providing them with an opportunity for a successful educational journey. The campaign aims to raise 10 million dirhams, and students will benefit from these funds starting 24 November 2021 and for one year. (This activity is licensed by the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, permit number 022).

Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Lulu Group International will aid the campaign by facilitating donations through their different points of sale. Community members will show their solidarity by donating valuable aid to students, starting at two dirhams.

Public donations will be accepted via text message through Etisalat and Du. Bank donations can be sent to Sharjah Islamic Bank - account number (11445518006), IBAN (AE350410000011445518006). Individuals can also donate through the link provided on the Emirates Red Crescent website (https://www.emiratesrc.ae/eduadu), with the donations ranging from ten dirhams to 1,000 dirhams.

H.E. Salem Al Rayes Al Ameri, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at Emirates Red Crescent, said, "Sponsoring students is one of the permanent and continuous programs within the initiatives of the Humanitarian and Development Authority. We continue to witness a high rate of response and generosity from sponsors and benefactors. These donations are considered a true embodiment and reflection of the authority's efforts to invest in empowering individuals and guiding them towards achieving their aspirations and fulfilling their dreams."

Al Ameri added, "The Authority acknowledges the important role it plays in preparing future generations for the responsibilities of tomorrow."

Al Ameri praised the existing cooperation between the Emirates Red Crescent and Abu Dhabi University, which seeks to support education and provide opportunities to disadvantaged students whose family circumstances prevent them from continuing their educational path. The cooperation embodies Abu Dhabi University's commitment to fulfilling its social responsibility, as well as its leading academic role in advancing science and education as the most important pillars of human development in the country. He also praised the role of the Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Lulu International Group in supporting the activities of the campaign.
