ADU’s CoE Hosts University’s First-Ever Virtual Women in Engineering Forum
More than 15 influential women in the engineering sector from across the globe are set to share their expertise and discuss the challenges they face in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region in the Abu Dhabi University’s first-ever virtual Women in Engineering Forum titled ‘Bringing the Gender Gap: Challenges, Demands and Opportunities’.
More than 15 influential women in the engineering sector from across the globe are set to share their expertise and discuss the challenges they face in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region in the Abu Dhabi University’s first-ever virtual Women in Engineering Forum titled ‘Bringing the Gender Gap: Challenges, Demands and Opportunities’. In partnership with the Abu Dhabi Municipality, Society of Engineers UAE and a group of other local and international partners, the forum is organized by the ADU College of Engineering (CoE), in collaboration with International Federation of Structural Concrete (fib) UAE section. The virtual event will take place from October 19 – 20 from 9:00A.M.-2:00P.M using Microsoft Teams.
The two-day Forum will cover three main themes: challenges, demands and opportunities women in engineering face; how to leverage female engineers’ expertise in solving industrial challenges; and the role of universities in bridging the gender gap across engineering fields. The speakers from locally and internationally recognized engineering societies, companies and universities will give keynote speeches and presentations touching on recommendations for how to leverage female contribution to the advancement of the profession and the community at large. The Forum will also provide insights on road maps to bridge the gender gap in various fields of engineering, in addition to optimizing the role of female engineers in solving industrial challenges.
Dr. Reem Sabouni, Associate Professor at ADU and Chair of the Forum commented: “ADU’s CoE is proud to host our first-ever virtual Forum focused on Women in Engineering. As we work hard to highlight women’s contributions to the various fields of engineering, in addition to bridging the gender gap, this virtual experience is an opportunity for members of the public to gain important insights from international experts in the engineering sector. I strongly encourage all budding young engineers, and particularly aspiring female engineers, to tune into the sessions and understand both the state of engineering world today and the future of the sector.”

Dr. Sabouni added: “We are especially excited to be working alongside the Abu Dhabi Municipality, fib-UAE and more strategic partners to host this event. At ADU, we are always keen to emphasize the importance of public-private partnerships with local and international entities, in line with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.”
The first day agenda will begin with opening remarks and welcoming notes followed by a keynote speech and a plenary session with three presentations. Two sessions will then take place, covering the main themes of the forum with two presenters in each session. The first day of the forum will conclude with a panel discussion deliberating measures to bridging the gender gap in various engineering fields.
