Home to more than 82 different nationalities, ADU aims to spread a culture of tolerance and inclusivity in line with the Year of Tolerance.

3. Engage in inquiry and discussion, to exchange thought and opinion, and to speak or write on any subject in accordance with federal and local laws.
4. Readily access established university policies and procedures; and
5. Have protection from unreasonable search and seizure.
When a student/organization is charged with a violation of the Student Code of Conduct, that student/organization has the right to:
Receive advance notice of the alleged violation, be informed of who to contact for a meeting, and the date by which the contact must occur.
Present his/her version of the events in question.
Be accompanied by an advisor or parent. (The advisor or parent may not speak or participate directly in the conduct process. This includes questioning witnesses or making arguments on the student’s behalf).
Have witnesses who present information on his/her behalf.
Question any statements or witnesses presented.
Challenge the objectivity of the hearing body in case of conflict of interest; and
Appeal the outcome of hearing on the following grounds:
a. the procedures under which the student/ organization is charged are invalid or not followed.
b. he student/organization did not have adequate opportunity to prepare and present a defense;
c. the evidence presented at the hearing was not substantial to justify the decision; or
d. the sanction imposed was not in keeping with the gravity of the violation

Abu Dhabi University hosted yesterday a very important roundtable on gender issues and women empowerment organised by the Office of the EU Embassy in the UAE. The European Union is funding a programme entitled Outreach Facility for the GCC. One of the priorities of this programme is gender equality and women empowerment, an important policy area for both the UAE and the EU. The roundtable was attended by many influential organisations in the presence of the EU Ambassador to the UAE, HE Lucie Berger. The roundtable was facilitated by the very capable Dr Melissa Langworthy. Many thanks to Dr Haifa Al Kaylani OBE for recommending us to host this important roundtable. Ms. Jenan Abu-Hakmeh will be conducting her research project, "The Influence of Gender Parity Legislation on Working Women in the UAE", under the advisement of Dr. Fauzia Jabeen, Associate Professor of Management. The Fulbright Scholarship is a prestigious fellowship awarded by the U.S. Department of State to promote international relations and intercultural competence between the U.S. and host countries.

UN Women in collaboration with Abu Dhabi University organized a panel discussion titled “Capturing the Voices of Girls on the SDGs: The Role of Youth in Driving a More Sustainable Future” at the UN Hub at Expo 2020 Dubai as part of the celebration of Global Goals Week 2022.
UN Women in collaboration with Abu Dhabi University organized a panel discussion titled “Capturing the Voices of Girls on the SDGs: The Role of Youth in Driving a More Sustainable Future” at the UN Hub at Expo 2020 Dubai as part of the celebration of Global Goals Week 2022. The event brought together female students and faculty members from Abu Dhabi University (ADU) to discuss their perspectives on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), how to advance them and highlighted the role of youth in building progressive societies.
The event’s opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Dena Assaf, UN Resident Coordinator for the UAE, and Dr Mouza Al Shehhi, Director, UN Women UAE Liaison Office for the GCC.
Professor Sherine Farouk, Assistant Provost for Academic Projects at Abu Dhabi University (ADU), said: “We are thrilled to collaborate with UN Women and spotlight the contributions of youth in shaping a more sustainable future. It is our collective responsibility to empower our younger generations to take part and join the dialogue, so that they are better equipped to drive solutions to the environmental, social and economic challenges the world is currently witnessing. Since 2003, Abu Dhabi University has supported successive generations in advancing the agendas and issues that matter to them, from environmental sustainability and innovation to social responsibility. We are proud that women represent 42% of ADU students and 45% of its faculty and staff. We were excited to hear and learn from ADU’s female students who participated in this year’s SDGs panel discussion at EXPO 2020 Dubai. We are confident that their perspectives and experiences will shape the conversation on the unique role of women in driving the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals, and the wider sustainability agenda in the UAE and around the world, both now and in the future.”
Professor Sherine added “Abu Dhabi University was also honored to be represented by H.H. Sheikha Dr. Moza bint Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Professor of Management at the College of Business & Chair of the college advisory Board, who highlighted the UAE’s efforts and the country’s progress in achieving the SDGs in her presentation titled ‘UAE Advancing the SDGs: Achievements and Opportunities for the Future’. Her highness also showcased some of the UAE’s milestones and SDGs scores, data and statistics as well as the key role of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood in elevating the status of women in the UAE.
Dr. Dena Assaf, UN Resident Coordinator for the UAE, said “In light of Global Goals Week, this event shares impactful insights and perspectives of the UN efforts in shedding light on youth, particularly the voices of girls, in achieving the SDGs. Such initiatives are significant to engage the youth in contributing to the socio-economic and environmental efforts of the UAE towards agenda 2030. The drive for a sustainable future is created through individual and collective actions to ensure that no one is left behind.”
Dr Mouza Al Shehhi, Director, UN Women UAE Liaison Office for the GCC, said " Four in 10 people – that’s 42% of the global population – are aged under 25 and almost half of them are young girls and women, so naturally, it is not possible to have a meaningful conversation about the SDGs without focusing on the role of youths as champions of change. We are delighted to collaborate with Abu Dhabi University to host this event and have UAE youths join this global dialogue and importantly, empowering them to turn their aspirations to action."
The SDGs adopted by world leaders in 2015, embody a roadmap for progress that is sustainable and inclusive. Achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment is integral to each of the 17 SDGs and ensures that the world has economies and social structures that work for all, as well as a shared responsibility towards the environment now and for future generations.
This year and for the first time, Global Goals Week was hosted outside of the UN General Assembly and held at Expo 2020 Dubai. The annual week of action, awareness and accountability for the Sustainable Development Goals is a shared commitment between 130+ partners across civil society, private and public organizations, business, and academia to end poverty and hunger, mitigate climate change, ensure equal access to education for all, advance gender equality and build sustainable cities and communities. Global Goals Week is part of a universal and transformative promise made by all UN Member States to leave no one behind.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates 11 October 2021: In line with the UAE’s vision to empower women across sectors, and taking pride in its students’ achievements, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) highlights the outstanding performance of its female engineering students in engineering and computing research.
Every year, ADU-enrolled female students in STEM take part in international and national awards bringing out their knowledge and expertise in an environment that enables them to grow, network, and discuss technical and professional ideas. During the last few years, the proportion of females in engineering and computing programs at ADU increased by 5%. Adding to that, the overall number of female students grew by 20% in the same time frame.
Most recently, ADU female researchers in the engineering and computing areas Maha Yaghi and Marah Alhalabi were selected amongst five students from across the world and awarded this year’s Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) WISC scholarships. IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization.
IEEE WISC Scholarship recipient Marah Alhalabi said: "Being a recipient of the IEEE WISC Premier Scholarship affirms my belief that women can grow to become excellent leaders in service computing. I am humbled by this recognition and dedicate it to my parents, mentors and the new generation of women in Computing majors.
Dr. Hamdi Sheibani, Dean of the College of Engineering at ADU said: “We are proud to be known as a college that strives for continuous empowerment of women in engineering and computing research. We aspire to build a community where women engineers can grow into their full potential and support future generations.”
Professor Waqar Ahmad, Chancellor of ADU said: “The achievements of all our female students and faculty further solidify ADU’s position as a leading academic institution in the UAE and the region. ADU’s mission is to prepare students to occupy demanding jobs in the real world through flexible, yet highly innovative programs. We are looking forward to seeing our students develop more innovative solutions and grow in the field of engineering and computing.”
Dr. Samr Ali, a graduate of the MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering program, who has recently defended her Ph.D. degree from Concordia University in Canada in the area of Artificial Intelligence and is currently working for Ericsson Montreal said: “I begin my research journey in the Artificial Intelligence area as an undergraduate then graduate student at ADU. My early experiences paved the way to where I am now.”
In recent years, ADU has hosted the annual Undergraduate Research Competition (URC) with the aim to encourage scientific research and innovation, gradually making it an integral part of the students' educational journey. From 2018 to 2021, ADU saw the participation of 1,467 female students with 26 of its students taking home awards. The number of female winners increased by 200% in just three years.
ADU equips its students with a strong educational foundation that will facilitate their participation in events internationally and locally. In addition, ADU exceptional cadres also previously participated and were awarded in competitions including the; 4th International Conference on Civil and Building Materials (ICCBM 2020) in Okinawa, Japan, and the 7th International Conference on Arab Women in Computing and Technology (ArabWIC), to name a few.
During the past years, ADU hosted Women in Engineering Forum, in line with Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 to focus on issues female engineers face with a particular reference to the region. In 2020, the forum received a turnout of more than 500 local and international participants. Set to be held next month, this year's event will highlight the contributions of female engineers to the development of sustainable smart cities before COVID-19 and the challenges that have arisen after the pandemic.
Being one of the region’s most prestigious academic institutions, ADU offers strong Engineering programs that prepare students to deal with the ever-changing market needs due to its up-to-date curriculum and advanced facilities.

As part of ADU Year of Zayed Strategy, Abu Dhabi University, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Business Women Council, organized the Mother of the Nation event under the theme of “Unlimited Giving” as well as a forum on the role of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan may god rest his soul in peace in empowering women. The forum highlighted a number of papers on women's entrepreneurship since the inception with the Union and the pioneering role of the late Sheikh Zayed, may God rest his soul, in laying the foundation for a business environment that enables women to contribute to the advancement of national development.
The event was attended by H.E Reed Hamad Al Dhaheri - Executive Committee Member, Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council, H.E Huda Al Matroushi, Board of Member of Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council and H.E Shafeeqa Al Ameri- Director of Abu Dhabi Business Women Council as well as Dr. Sherine Farouk, Assistant provost for academic programs at Abu Dhabi University and several leading females, businesswomen and academicians.
Dr. Sherine said “The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan may god rest his soul in peace presented a unique example in creating an environment that empowered women to be entrepreneurs by encouraging them to engage in education, work and family care, and to combine these roles to enhance the capacity and competence of Emirati women so that they could launch their own start-ups. Our wise leadership carries on with empowering women in all fields. Women are also greatly supported and encouraged by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood. All of this has made Emirati women a unique model of success on the Arab and international levels. Today, we have over 21,000 businesswomen in the country.”
Her Excellency Mariam Mohamed Al Rumaithi, Chairwoman of the Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council, said: “This event translates the mission of the Council in supporting women and providing them with all the necessary means to be creative and successful as business leaders, stressing the pioneering role of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and her great attention to empowering Emirati women in various sectors. Today we see Emirati women assume various leadership positions in the country and a partner in the achievement of our national goals.
The event included a number of panel discussions on the impact of the support provided by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless him and grant him peace, since the foundation of the Union, to Emirati women and encouraging them to join men in the fields of work and achievement. The participants stressed that this great support was behind the acceleration of the development of the UAE and the realization of major achievements during record time. The event saw wide participation from the audience, including students of Abu Dhabi University.

It's actual representation, not just filling seats in boardrooms,
It's not a show. It's real steps. And countless accomplished Emirati women are living proof.
Sure it's the safest place on Earth to be a woman.
But you know what else?
It's the best environment for your ambitions too,
So the question isn't whether you should take this path or that,
The question for every Emirati woman is: how far will your ambition take you?
Because the stage is set.

The initiative aims to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence among people regardless of geographical, cultural, or religious boundaries, build a communication bridge between individuals, enhance mutual respect, and promote understanding of others.
The 'Tolerance Without Borders' forum is designed to create a youth and student community from various local and international universities, youth centers, and tolerance advocates to harness modern technologies in projects related to sustainability and embody the concepts of tolerance and coexistence in the thinking and legacy of the founder.
ADU’s tolerance club was awarded the Ministry of Tolerance’s bronze shield award at the annual tolerance clubs forum which took place recently in Expo 2020. The award commended the club’s commitment and efforts to promote the values and meaning of tolerance through the many activities and events initiated with the College of Arts and Sciences since 2017 until today.
The students received recognition for their efforts in launching hundreds of ethical initiatives that reflected the values of tolerance and coexistence among all society members. These initiatives were implemented as part of the Islamic culture course and supported by the College of Arts and Sciences. The tolerance club also collaborated with several government and charitable departments in achieving this endeavor. Moreover, ADU’s tolerance club contributed to the “100 million campaign” that focused on donating meals and secured food aid for struggling communities around the world.
In line with UAE’s national tolerance program, ADU launched its tolerance club in 2017 in an effort to boost its values related to tolerance and co-existence in the university among its student and faculty. The University’s club promotes tolerance amongst its employee and student body and prevent them from fanaticism, extremism, as well as enriching scientific and cultural content.
Salem Mubarak Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of Community Relations at Abu Dhabi University, said: “This award is first and foremost a testament to our students who prioritize tolerance as an indispensable value across the board. As they gear up to be the future leaders of tomorrow, their advocacy and celebration of diversity, inclusion and tolerance fills us with nothing but pride and trust in their ability to one day take on leading roles within institutions and governments.”
Al Dhaheri, added: “The award reflects ADU’s efforts in prioritizing, promoting and instilling the values of tolerance in the university’s culture and giving students the space to express themselves within these values. As a one of the region’s leading academic institutions, we are committed to working in line with the UAE Government’s National Agenda, who have long been one of the biggest role models and advocates of tolerance.”
Mrs. Nagam Hussein, Instructor of Islamic Culture, at Abu Dhabi University (ADU), commented: “At Abu Dhabi University (ADU), we continuously strive to strengthen our humanitarian efforts by providing support to those who sponsor and organize philanthropic initiatives. Through these programs, we aim to prepare our students to change, innovate and build a society that celebrates its human values and distinct culture diversity.”
The UAE National Tolerance program was launched by H.H Sheikha Lubna Al Qasim and highlights the values of tolerance in the UAE society. The program is based on seven main pillars: Islam, UAE Constitution, Zayed's Legacy and Ethics of the UAE, International Conventions, Archeology and History, Humanity, and Common Values. H.H. Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi emphasized that through these solid values, the UAE society will continue to build up tolerance, multiculturalism, culture of acceptance of others, and reject attitudes of discrimination and hatred.
In cooperation with various entities and through special teamwork, thought initiatives and national programs will be launched such as the declaration of a Tolerance Week, establishment of a Council for Tolerance and the UAE Tolerance Centre, and the launch of Tolerance Responsibility Program for Organizations, and the UAE Charter of Tolerance and Coexistence and Peace.

As humanity faces one of its most challenging crises in the world’s recent history, now more than ever, themes around support, solidarity, and coming together despite differences have found a deeper meaning and a more important place in people’s lives.
As such, to spark inspiration, and bring their imagination and creativity to life, students from the Islamic Culture (ISL 100) course had the opportunity to engage in healthy competition and present their ideas and initiatives on tolerance and what that means in today’s world. A dedicated jury carefully assessed the presentation and pick nominees for the following categories: best ethical content; best graphic design; best virtual content; and best content representing tolerance.
Additionally, the College of Arts and Sciences, as part of the Islamic Culture courses, launched a virtual initiative for all ADU students that set out to draw a tolerant world and a society that is more in solidarity with all its different classes. Aside from further instilling the values of a more tolerant world, this initiative will help students feel a little more connected to one another, despite staying home and social distancing.
The winning initiatives included ‘Saned’ initiative, which won 'Best Ethical Content', and targets workers in the cleaning, hospitality and security services sectors. The initiative was designed to support their ideas, talents and social participation. The “Creative content to teach our children the concept of tolerance” initiative won 'Best Graphic Design' and is aimed at creating creative and unique content to raise awareness for tolerance among children and highlight the negative consequences of bullying.
Additionally, the 'Illuminated Lamps' initiative was recognized for 'Best Virtual Content', which targets talented university students by providing them with an interactive platform to connect and volunteer to support their colleagues in developing their academic, technical and creative skills. The initiative 'Its basis is creativity' also won 'Best virtual content', also targeting university students. This initiative aims to empower innovation through an e-platform where participants can exchange knowledge and technical skills in graphic design and programming.
Among the winning initiatives was the 'Linguistic Coexistence', which was recognized for 'Best Content Representing the Value of Tolerance', which provides complimentary academic content through electronic platforms for employees and those who wish to learn the Arabic language, with the aim of promoting coexistence and the spirit of tolerance.
Professor Waqar Ahmad, the ADU Chancellor said: “Declaring 2019 as the Year of Tolerance highlighted the UAE’s commitment to instilling the values of tolerance and acceptance, and to carrying the late Sheikh Zayed's legacy and teachings. Declaring 2020 as the year we prepare for the next 50 years reiterates the importance of further carrying forward 50 years of tolerance, and 50 years of achievements across the board.”
Professor Waqar added: “Tolerance is a key attribute in ensuring the safety, stability and happiness of people across the world. Al Dhaheri added that promoting the concept of tolerance among students enhances the spirit of coexistence and community cohesion, and today individuals from all around the world live among us with love, peace and security, and we are proud of the role the department plays as a regulator of places of worship for non-Muslims in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Emphasizing that the emirate has become a destination for living, work, life, tourism and investment, due to its safety and security, in addition to its diversity, which is visible in Abu Dhabi.
Al Dhaheri explained that the department is working to build an active and responsible community that embraces all its segments, and a community that is tolerant and capable of adopting positive and meaningful change, in addition to establishing an integrated and cohesive community, by providing opportunities and services to all members of the community in order to enhance its economic and social growth.
The Tolerance Day Event noted a remarkable success among students, faculty, and the community at large – showing eagerness, enthusiasm, and passion on behalf of the students towards building a more inclusive and tolerant world. March 24th, 2019, Abu Dhabi (UAE): As part of its efforts to spread a culture of tolerance and inclusivity in line with the Year of Tolerance, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) hosted an International Day for the ADU community to celebrate diversity and promote exchange and understanding between different nationalities.
With more than 14 different countries joining the celebrations, the event featured a mix of eclectic culinary traditions, cultural performances infused with folk music and traditional dress, as well as an array of internationally themed booths. A renowned Emirati-Japanese Kharsha Drums group performed at the event and captivated audiences with a unique fusion performance that combined elements from the Emirati and Japanese cultures in a distinctive musical expression.
Professor Waqar Ahmad, ADU’s Chancellor, commented, “We strive to follow into the footsteps of our wise leadership who have firmly established the UAE as a promoter of peace and symbol of tolerance, the enduring value of this year’s theme. At ADU, we are proud to be home to over 82 different nationalities who live harmoniously in our rich and culturally diverse environment. This initiative aims to promote a dialogue between cultures and engage the ADU community in learning more about other traditions and values to expand their knowledge of the world in line with the Year of Tolerance.”
The event saw the participation of faculty and staff in addition to Alliance Française (AF), an international organization that promotes French language and culture around the world.
The festivities included themed booths showcasing a striking mix of cultures from India, Palestine, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Ireland, UAE, Japan, Sudan, Philippines, Korea, Egypt, China, and France. During the festival, four awards were presented to faculty members and their affiliated booths in different categories including ‘best dressed’, ‘best cultural dish’, ‘best decorated booth’ and ‘best dance performance’. This initiative is one of many planned this year to celebrate the Year of Tolerance.
The university currently has more than 7,600 students across its bachelor’s, diploma, master’s and PhD programs at its campuses in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhafra and Al Ain. Students at ADU represent over 82 different nationalities enrolled in 44 academic programs, all of which enjoy global academic accreditation. The growing multi-cultural student base is divided into 29 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate programs, with over 15,000 graduates working in the UAE and abroad.

In conjunction with the UAE government’s vision to support innovation, information technology and development, ADU recently announced the expansion of its internationally accredited academic portfolio to include a unique range of bachelor’s programs in the engineering and health sciences streams. Engineering programs include biomedical engineering, cybersecurity engineering, industrial engineering and software engineering, in addition to urban planning (CAA accreditation pending). Health sciences programs include biomedical sciences (laboratory medicine), human nutrition and dietetics, and molecular and medical genetics in addition to the existing environmental health and safety and public health programs.

Students of the Islamic Culture course under the supervision of the College of Arts and Sciences displayed numerous projects and activities reflecting the spirit of cultural diversity and positive moral values including games and fun activities that reinforce ethical values as well as interactive creative posters and artifacts. The event included an exhibition held by the Department of Community Development depicting the history of tolerance in the UAE by highlighting the existing places of worship in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as well as a lecture entitled "Tolerance and National Identity in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi" by Dr. Mohammed Habash from the Department of Community Development, which stressed the co-relationship between the concepts of tolerance and national identity.
The UAE has several laws in place that aim to prohibit discrimination and hatred on the basis of caste, race, religion or ethnic origin. Further, there are laws to protect the rights of people of determination (those with special needs) and laws for equal pay to women.
In July 2015, the late H. In July 2015, the late H. H Sheikh Khalifa has issued Federal Decree Law No. 2 of 2015 (PDF) on Combating Discrimination and Hatred, which aims to protect everyone in the UAE and thus bring the concept of social security to a new level.
The law is intended to provide a solid legislative ground for the environment of tolerance, co-existence and acceptance. It aims to fight discrimination against individuals or groups based on religion, caste, doctrine, race, color or ethnic origin.
The law criminalizes any acts that trigger religious hatred and/or insult religion through any form of expression, which covers speech and the written word, books, pamphlets or online media. The law prohibits any act that would be considered as insulting God, his prophets or apostles or holy books or houses of worship or graveyards.
The law prohibits any entity or group established specifically to provoke religious hatred and recommends stringent punishments for groups or supporters of any organisations or individuals that are associated with hate crimes.
It also bars any kind of events such as conferences and meetings within the UAE, which are organised with the sole purpose of sowing seeds of discrimination, discord or hatred against individuals or groups.
Receiving financial support for such activities is also punishable under the new law.
The law encourages anyone involved in any activity that violates the law to submit themselves voluntarily before the authorities and has provisions allowing the courts to waive penalties in such cases.

The UAE places education at the cornerstone of Vision 2021. The Ministry of Education (MOE) and its strategic partners have laid out a strong strategy to harness the national human capital’s full potential by maximizing participation in high-quality education, encouraging entrepreneurship, and nurturing public and private sector leaders. The 2016 merger between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has enabled the UAE to focus on equity and quality from kindergarten to higher education to fill the gap between academic requirements
and labour market demands. MOE is accelerating progress towards the SDGs by infusing Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) (such as Artificial Intelligence) in the education system through a smart learning program and a specialized data centre.

On 8 March 2015, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, launched the National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women in the UAE for the years 2015-2021.
The strategy aims to provide a framework for all federal and local government entities, private sector, as well as social organisations, to set plans that will provide a decent living for women and make them creative in all sustainable and developmental fields.
The current plan is an update to an earlier strategy launched by Sheikha Fatima in 2002. It is also seen as a fruit of the cooperation between GWU and other competent organisations at the federal and local levels and social organisations.
The strategy is based on analyses of the policies and programmes implemented by various institutions working for women’s empowerment. Workshops were held to discuss the results with partner organisations.
The strategy 2015-2021 would be a framework for setting up work plans which would contribute to positioning the UAE among the advanced countries in the area of women empowerment.

Education for Emiratis is free in public schools, colleges and universities. The UAE govern focuses on elimination of gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including women and persons with disabilities. Article 17 of the UAE's Constitution and Article 1 of Federal Law No. 11 of 1972 concerning Compulsory Education provide that education is compulsory at primary stages and free of charge at all stages for citizens in the UAE.
Aiming to bring the compulsory school-leaving age more in line with many other advanced countries across the world, the UAE Cabinet approved a new law in July 2012. This law makes it compulsory for Emirati children to start schooling at the age of 6 and remain in school until they have completed Grade 12 or reach the age of 18, whichever occurs first.

Emirates Red Crescent and Abu Dhabi University recently launched the Education Support Campaign in coordination with Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Lulu Group International. Through this collaboration, ADU and Emirates Red Crescent will support disadvantaged students in their university studies, providing them with an opportunity for a successful educational journey. The campaign aims to raise 10 million dirhams, and students will benefit from these funds starting 24 November 2021 and for one year. (This activity is licensed by the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, permit number 022).
Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Lulu Group International will aid the campaign by facilitating donations through their different points of sale. Community members will show their solidarity by donating valuable aid to students, starting at two dirhams.
Public donations will be accepted via text message through Etisalat and Du. Bank donations can be sent to Sharjah Islamic Bank - account number (11445518006), IBAN (AE350410000011445518006). Individuals can also donate through the link provided on the Emirates Red Crescent website (https://www.emiratesrc.ae/eduadu), with the donations ranging from ten dirhams to 1,000 dirhams.
H.E. Salem Al Rayes Al Ameri, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at Emirates Red Crescent, said, "Sponsoring students is one of the permanent and continuous programs within the initiatives of the Humanitarian and Development Authority. We continue to witness a high rate of response and generosity from sponsors and benefactors. These donations are considered a true embodiment and reflection of the authority's efforts to invest in empowering individuals and guiding them towards achieving their aspirations and fulfilling their dreams."
Al Ameri added, "The Authority acknowledges the important role it plays in preparing future generations for the responsibilities of tomorrow."
