ADU to Host the ‘International Conference on Advancing Sustainable Futures 2023’ in Collaboration with National and International Organizations

In the presence and under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is hosting the ‘International Conference on Advancing Sustainable Futures’ (ICASF 2023) under the theme of ‘Sustainable Futures and Technologies’. The Conference is in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the International Society of Environmental Geotechnology, and leading universities worldwide and sponsored by Emirates Red Crescent, Emirates Global Aluminum, and Adeeb Group.

The ICASF 2023 will take place from the 5th to the 6th of December 2023 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Dubai Palm Jumeirah in the presence of several academics and industry experts from over 70 countries.

The ICASF 2023 will serve as a platform for international researchers and specialists to engage in the most pressing challenge and discuss and share their latest research findings in the field of sustainability. Additionally, the Conference will address the four sustainability pillars in line with the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including technology, people and culture, environment, and economics.

The Conference will feature six tracks, including 34 sessions discussing 210 research papers accepted out of 350 submissions, which will shed light on sustainability and the environment. These sessions will focus on topics such as Business Management Sustainability and Law, Sustainability and Education, Sustainability in Health, Food, and Social Science and Future Researchers, as well as Science and Engineering Sustainability.

Additionally, three special sessions will take place during the Conference including the Education for Sustainable Development: What, Why, and How and ICASF 2023 - Indexed Scopus Proceedings and Publications and The Need for Accelerating Transformative Change in Cities and Communities: The Crucial Role Played by Universities. In addition to two panel discussions including the Leaders of Sustainable Futures: Lessons from Industry Eco-Champions and the Role of ESG Metrics in Accounting and Finance; Measuring Impact Beyond Profit.

Professor Sherine Farouq, ADU Associate Provost for Academic Projects and chair of the Conference, said “At ADU, we believe that cultivating a sustainable future can effectively mitigate climate change and advance enduring economic growth. The Conference will also witness the signing of groundbreaking Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with prestigious international universities and the announcement of the best 14 universities according to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023 Award.

UI GreenMetric Rankings evaluates universities based on three core pillars—environmental, economic, and social value. The assessment indicators cover a broad spectrum, including campus infrastructure, energy and climate initiatives, waste management strategies, water conservation efforts, transportation systems, and the institution's commitment to education and research.

ADU’s College of Business will host the Adam Smith 300 Year Celebrations event during the conference in collaboration with the University of Glasgow. In addition, the ADU Research Institute for Sustainable Future will be announced at the Conference.

In line with the University’s dedication to raising awareness around climate change and sustainability, ADU will host seven panel discussions in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). The panels will take place from the 1st to the 11th of December 2023 at Expo City Dubai, in the Green Zone, with a focus on students’ empowerment to enroll actively in climate change, renewable energy, clean water, and many more.
