Developing an Effective Research Strategy for Publishing in Scholarly Academic Journals: Some Guideposts
The College of Business’s Visiting Senior Researcher Fellow Program 2018-2019 aims to improve the research capabilities and productivity of faculty through collaboration with distinguished international scholars. The program will contribute to the College, ADU, and the UAE community through valuable research output in areas relevant to national and regional strategic priorities (e.g. Abu Dhabi vision 2030).
This research seminar is the second seminar in the academic year 2018-2019. Professor Constantine Katsikeas will discuss important issues to be considered when developing an effective research strategy and present an ‘ideal model’ of working in a focused area of research.
The College of Business is proud to host Professor Constantine Katsikeas as a visiting senior researcher fellow from 26 January – 1 February 2019. Thanks go to the Office of Research and Sponsored programs (ORSP) and Professor Ashraf Khalil, ORSP Director, for their valuable support.
Professor Katsikeas is the Arnold Ziff Research Chair and Professor of Marketing and International Management, and founder and Director of the Global and Strategic Marketing Research Center at Leeds University Business School (LUBS), University of Leeds.
He is Editor-in-Chief of Journal of International Marketing, published by the American Marketing Association, Editor–Marketing of Journal of International Business Studies, published by the Academy of International Business, and Area Editor of Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, published by the Academy of Marketing Science. He was Associate Editor of British Journal of Management (2004–2007) and serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Management International Review, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, British Journal of Management, and Journal of Marketing Management. He is an active member of the American Marketing Association, Academy of International Business, Academy of Marketing Science, and European Marketing Academy.
Abstract
Publishing in scholarly journals is an integral part of an individual’s growth, development, and success in academia. The pursuit of an effective research strategy is key to conducting relevant and rigorous research on timely and interesting issues in marketing and other business and management disciplines. In the presentation, attention is given to discussing important issues that should be considered in developing an effective research strategy and presenting an ‘ideal model’ of working in a focused area of research. The editor’s perspective is considered with regards to the crafting and submission of manuscripts to internationally recognized and leading marketing, business and general management journals. The presentation focuses on the different manuscript quality elements that should determine authors’ decisions when selecting the journals to submit their papers to. Key points pertaining to crafting manuscripts for submission to scholarly academic journals will also be discussed.
